Final week, final blog. Thank you to those of you who have been supporting me throughout this whole journey, it truly means so much and I hope these were able to give you a glimpse of what life on the world race looks like and encourage you by how much God is doing around the world.
This past week, we had our final week of ministry. We went back to Black Mountain to serve with disaster relief efforts from the hurricane 8 months ago. It was a huge blessing to go back to where this race all started for our squad and see how far Gods taken us. On Saturday, we were able to visit the landslide site, we were able to walk around and see the cabins and the destruction that the hurricane had caused. It was amazing to see with fresh eyes how God had truly saved all 36 of our lives that day. We were able to hear testimonies from that day from the guys who rescued us and learned just how much God had His hand over that whole day. From waking up one of the missionaries who has served with disaster relief at 4am to preparing him to come, to alerting our host about possible evacuations to get us to safety before we even knew what was to come, God truly had a plan. And although it was a tragic day of loss for so many people in the community, God has turned it around for His good and His glory, so many people have come back to the church because of the hurricane and how God is moving through the midst of it all.
My team had the blessing of working on a woman named Michelle’s home. Her house had been flooded in the storm but thankfully no trees fell on her house. We did a lot of demo this week, taking down ceilings, pulling up floors, and knocking down walls. We were also able to get to know Michelle and pray with her over all the difficulties and struggles she is facing. The whole week, we were able to hear stories and testimonies from the community and it is so evident the miracles God is working.
We then returned from ministry and began our final week of debrief. I am so grateful for this last week with my squad, watching movies, playing games, lake day, and worshiping together, it is such a gift to be in this community. We’ve spent this last week preparing to go home and enter “normal” life again, even though we all know we are forever changed because of this trip. We’ve truly tasted and seen the glory of God’s Kingdom and there is no going back. I am excited to go home knowing God has even more and even better things in store for me, His plan is so good and isn’t complete after 9 months. I am excited to see my family and friends, to sleep in a bed, to drive a car, to have a real shower, but I’m also going to miss this place, miss my tent, miss the van trips, and most of all miss my K-Squad family. It’s definitely going to be hard leaving the people I’ve called family for this past year, but I am so grateful for all this year has brought. The things I’ve learned about God, myself and just the world, the memories we’ve made, the people we’ve met, the miracles we saw, the every day things we did together with an overflowing amount of joy! I am so so grateful God placed me here with these people, these crazy people that I love so deeply.
Thank you! If you would like to hear more about my trip please message me and I would love to get coffee with you and tell you more stories and testimonies from this past year. God bless you!
Goodbye world race. Thank you Jesus!!
